Ashley Giles became the team’s director in 2018. The performance of the England team during his tenure was full of ups and downs. However, after the victory in Sri Lanka, the England team could not do much.

Ashley Giles, the director of the England cricket team, has resigned from his post. He has taken this decision after reviewing the team’s poor performance in the Ashes. Andrew Strauss has been named interim director of the team in his place. The England Cricket Board will soon search for the eligible person for this post. However, team captain Joe Root had expressed his desire to continue in his post after the end of the Ashes series and he continues to be the captain of the Test team.

England’s performance in the recently concluded Ashes series was disappointing. After this, many fundamental changes are being made in England cricket. Giles’ resignation is also a part of this episode. England suffered a 0-4 defeat in the Ashes series. In a match that was drawn, the England team was very close to defeat. At the same time, in most of the matches, he had to face defeat by a big margin. Especially the team’s batting was flop throughout the series.

The team’s head coach Chris Silverwood is also being discussed. However, whether he will continue in his post or not. It is yet to be decided on this. “I am deeply grateful to Ashley for his commitment and contribution to England’s men’s cricket over the past three years,” ECB CEO Tom Harrison said on Wednesday following Ashley’s resignation.

“He is highly respected throughout the game and has made a huge contribution to the ECB and England men’s cricket. After the team’s dismal performance in the Ashes, we must make sure what changes we make to make our Test team a success “

Giles took over as England team director in 2018 after Strauss. He said that the last two years brought with it many challenges with the Covid-19 pandemic. Especially for those people who are suffering from mental stress from playing in Bio Bubble. “The past few years have been incredibly challenging and I am proud of what we have been able to do in the toughest of conditions. It has undoubtedly protected the future of the sport in England and Wales,” Giles said.

“Despite these challenges, in the last three years, we have become the 50-over world champions, the top ranked T20 team in the world, we remain the fourth ranked Test team and our U-19 team has reached the World Cup final for the first time. In 24 years I wish all our players and staff great success for the future. I now want to spend some time with my family before taking any further responsibility.”
