Kamala Harris has made headlines by publicly releasing her medical records, declaring herself to be in “excellent health” and ready for the presidency. Following this disclosure, she took aim at Donald Trump, accusing him of lacking transparency by not sharing his own health records.
The Vice President suggested that Trump is avoiding scrutiny regarding his fitness for office. In response, Trump’s campaign cited a statement from his doctor, claiming he is in “perfect and excellent health,” but did not provide the actual medical records.
As the campaign heats up, Harris emphasized that Trump’s busy schedule doesn’t equate to stamina. She referred to the latest medical report, which praised her “physical and mental resiliency” necessary for presidential duties. Dr. Joshua Simmons, her physician for over three years, confirmed that her recent physical was “unremarkable” and that she actively manages her health, including regular screenings.
Harris’s campaign quickly turned the spotlight back on Trump, urging him to release his medical records with a social media post saying, “Your turn, Donald Trump.”
Ahead of a campaign event in North Carolina, Harris also questioned Trump’s mental sharpness, suggesting he tends to “go off on tangents.” The Trump campaign countered, defending his health with assertions from his doctors and updates following a recent assassination attempt that left him unharmed.
Both parties have focused on the age and mental acuity of their opponents, with Trump at 78 and Joe Biden also nearing the same age when he exits office if re-elected. If he wins, Trump would leave office at 82, setting a record as the oldest president in U.S. history, which Biden would share.
In the face of Harris’s challenges, Trump’s communications director, Steven Cheung, reiterated that Trump has “voluntarily released” health updates from his doctors, emphasizing that they deemed him fit to serve as Commander in Chief.
