Governor Tim Walz Escapes Injury in Milwaukee Motorcade Crash
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz was unharmed after a crash involving vehicles in his motorcade on Monday afternoon in Milwaukee. The incident occurred around 1:00 PM local time (6:00 PM GMT) on Interstate 794, involving the cars at the rear of the motorcade, which were carrying members of the press.
The collision reportedly caused significant jolting for the journalists onboard, who were “violently thrown forward” after their vehicle was hit from behind, propelling it into the car in front. Initial reports indicate at least one person sustained injuries, including what appeared to be a broken arm. The injured individual was treated by medics at the scene.
Governor Walz, who was traveling in the front of the motorcade, was not affected by the crash. Following the incident, Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden both reached out to Walz to ensure his well-being. The Governor expressed his gratitude for their concern and praised the Secret Service and local first responders for their swift action.
In a brief statement at a Labor Day event in Milwaukee, Walz addressed the accident, saying, “Some of my staff and members of the press that were traveling up with us were involved in a traffic accident on the way here today. We’ve spoken with the staff. I’m relieved to say that with a few minor injuries, everybody’s going to be okay.”
The affected vehicles pulled over, while Walz continued to his scheduled appearance. The crash follows a recent motorcade-related accident involving a Georgia policeman who sustained serious injuries after crashing his motorcycle while escorting the campaign convoy.
Republican vice-presidential nominee JD Vance also reacted to the news, expressing his hope that everyone involved would be alright. The incident underscores the inherent risks and challenges associated with campaign travel, where motorcade vehicles are frequently operated by campaign staff with varying levels of driving experience.
