Nina Dobrev is making impressive strides in her recovery from a severe dirt bike accident earlier this year. The 35-year-old actress, who sustained a torn ACL, a meniscus tear, and a fractured tibial plateau in May, recently shared an optimistic update on her healing journey.
Speaking at the Shiseido Blue Project’s 4th Annual Beach Clean-Up in Huntington Beach, California, Dobrev revealed she is ahead of her expected recovery timeline. “I think I’m doing pretty well,” Dobrev told attendees. Her doctors were reportedly surprised by her rapid progress, although she acknowledged that a full recovery would still be a lengthy process.
Currently about three and a half months into her recovery, Dobrev admitted she underestimated the extent of her injury and the time required for healing. “I didn’t realize it meant nine months to a year of recovery,” she said. Despite being ahead of schedule, she emphasized the importance of patience to avoid re-injury.
Dobrev has received considerable support from her boyfriend, Shaun White, especially during their recent trip to the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. White’s thoughtful arrangements, including securing a wheelchair to ease her mobility, were a significant help during the event, according to Dobrev.
On social media, Dobrev has been candid about her recovery. Her recent Instagram post featured a lighthearted pun about her progress: “Glad I don’t KNEE’D those crutches anymore,” reflecting her improved condition. She also drew inspiration from Olympian Lindsey Vonn’s openness about her knee surgery, motivating her to share her journey.
Dobrev remains optimistic, focusing on her gradual return to normal activities and managing her expectations during her recovery.
