Adobe is set to expand its suite of creative tools with the upcoming launch of its new generative AI-powered video creation tool, Adobe Firefly Video Model. Scheduled for a limited release later this year, the tool aims to enhance Adobe’s offerings in the burgeoning market of AI-driven video generation.

The Firefly Video Model will be introduced in beta and will complement Adobe’s existing Firefly suite, which already includes AI tools for generating still images, designs, and vector graphics. This new tool is expected to position Adobe as a significant player in the competitive field of AI video creation, joining the ranks of existing solutions like OpenAI’s Sora, Stability AI’s Stable Video Diffusion, and various other emerging startups.

Alexandru Costin, Adobe’s vice president of generative AI, explained that the Firefly Video Model can generate a five-second video clip from a single prompt, accommodating both text and image inputs. Users will also have the ability to specify detailed video attributes such as camera angle, panning, motion, and zoom. Costin emphasized that the tool has been designed with videographers in mind, ensuring high-quality output and precise adherence to user prompts.

To address potential concerns about data privacy and content ownership, Adobe has confirmed that the video model is trained exclusively on public domain or licensed content. The training set comprises the Adobe Stock database, which includes 400 million curated images, illustrations, and videos, devoid of intellectual property, trademarks, or recognizable characters.

In addition to the Firefly Video Model, Adobe is rolling out another innovation called Generative Extend. Integrated into Adobe Premiere Pro, this tool can extend any existing video clip by generating a two-second insert to fill gaps in footage. Previewed earlier this year, Generative Extend has already received positive feedback from Adobe’s user base.

As Adobe prepares to introduce these new tools, the company is positioning itself at the forefront of AI-driven creative solutions, reflecting its commitment to advancing the capabilities available to creative professionals.
