Omaha, Nebraska – The Tennessee Volunteers, seeded No. 1 nationally, kicked off their College World Series campaign with a heart-stopping 12-11 victory over the Florida State Seminoles in a game that showcased incredible resilience and offensive firepower.

The Vols found themselves trailing late in the game, down 11-8 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning. What followed was a remarkable display of clutch hitting and determination that electrified the crowd at Charles Schwab Field.

The ninth-inning rally began with Kavares Tears blasting a triple off the outfield wall, setting the stage for a dramatic comeback. Dean Curley’s sacrifice fly and Christian Moore’s RBI double brought Tennessee within striking distance at 11-10. Blake Burke then delivered a crucial two-run single to center field, tying the game and setting up a tense finish.

With the score knotted at 11-11 and the momentum squarely in their favor, Tennessee continued to apply pressure. Billy Amick’s single loaded the bases, paving the way for Dylan Dreiling’s heroics. Dreiling wasted no time, lining a sharp single into the left-center gap, driving in the winning run and sending the Vols faithful into jubilation.

The game was a rollercoaster from start to finish, with both teams exchanging blows throughout. Tennessee capitalized on key moments despite defensive challenges and early deficits. Christian Moore’s historic performance included hitting for the cycle, showcasing his versatility and offensive prowess on the grandest stage of college baseball.

On the mound, Tennessee faced adversity but managed to keep the game within reach. Despite yielding multiple runs, the pitching staff showed resilience, eventually giving the offense a chance to stage its dramatic comeback.

The victory propels Tennessee into the winner’s bracket of Bracket 1, where they will face the North Carolina Tar Heels on Sunday night. North Carolina advanced earlier in the day with a walk-off win over Virginia, setting up a highly anticipated showdown between two powerhouse programs.

As the College World Series continues, Tennessee’s ability to rally and seize opportunities will be crucial. Head Coach Tony Vitello praised his team’s grit and determination after the game, emphasizing the importance of staying composed under pressure.

“Our guys showed tremendous heart today,” Vitello remarked. “We never gave up, and that’s the mark of a championship-caliber team. We’ll enjoy this victory tonight and turn our focus to North Carolina tomorrow.”

The Vols’ journey through the College World Series promises more excitement and challenges ahead. With their potent lineup and resilient spirit, Tennessee aims to continue their quest for a national championship, buoyed by the confidence gained from their thrilling opening win.
