Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes insisted that Travis Kelce is still dedicated to football, despite his high-profile romance with Taylor Swift. The Chiefs tight end has been thrust into the spotlight since he began dating the pop star in the summer, with Swift attending 12 Kansas City games this season.
However, despite all the extra attention on Kelce this season, Mahomes insisted that the two-time Super Bowl winner is just as focused on his professional life as he is his personal. ‘Obviously, he’s in a great relationship now and he embraces that, but when he gets in the building, it’s all about football.’
The signal caller, who has developed a special relationship with Kelce on the field, hailed him as the ‘hardest working guy in the building’. ‘He’s handled it great. I think what I’ve always known about Travis is he loves to follow his dreams outside the building,’ Mahomes said.
Mahomes has had a front row seat to Kelce and Swift’s love story with his wife Brittany becoming fast friends with the singer as they have watched multiple games together from VIP suites, even coordinating their outfits and creating celebratory handshakes.
‘That “Anti-Hero” song, that one is pretty sweet,’ Mahomes said of what Swift tune is his favorite. ‘So I would say that. I do love “Love Story”. It gets me every single time.’ ‘It’s been awesome to see their relationship grow,’ he said of the couple. The quarterback was also quizzed on the 14-time Grammy award winner’s hits ahead of the Super Bowl in Las Vegas this weekend.
Swift is expected to be at Super Bowl LVIII despite playing for shows as part of ‘The Eras Tour’ in Tokyo until Saturday. There may be a six-year age gap between them but Mahomes and Kelce are great friends off the pitch. On the pitch, they have established themselves as one of the NFL’s most dangerous offensive threats with the pair regularly combining for the Chiefs.
They have won two Vince Lombardi trophies together and will compete in a fourth Super Bowl on Sunday when the Chiefs play the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas. Mahomes was taken with the 10th pick in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft but Kelce had already been in Kansas City for four years before that.
Recalling their first meeting, Mahomes said: ‘I knew of him obviously, because he was such a great football player even before I got [to the Chiefs]. ‘I think my biggest impression was, “that’s a tall guy”, because I’d never seen a guy that tall man be able to move like that.‘But just a good dude, man, I think I knew that from day one.’
