A Story of Survival and Unlikely Friendship
Set against the harrowing backdrop of 1942 in the Pacific, Orang Ikan centers on a Japanese soldier named Saito and a British prisoner of war, Bronson, who find themselves stranded on a deserted island, pursued by a terrifying creature known as the “Orang Ikan.” As they navigate the dangers of both their environment and their own tumultuous history, an unexpected bond begins to form.
Meet the Creative Team Behind the Film
Directed and written by Mike Wiluan, who previously gained recognition for Buffalo Boys and Losmen Melati, Orang Ikan features talented actors Dean Fujioka (Fullmetal Alchemist) and Callum Woodhouse (All Creatures Great and Small). The film tells a poignant tale that combines elements of horror and brotherhood amidst the chaos of war.
A Tale Born from Real Events
The story kicks off aboard a Japanese ship transporting POWs to occupied territories for forced labor. Among the prisoners is Saito, a soldier facing death for treachery. When their ship is attacked by Allied submarines, Saito and Bronson are thrown into the ocean, ultimately washing ashore on a desolate island where they must confront not only the perils of nature but also the fearsome Orang Ikan.
