In a significant turn of events, SM Entertainment has officially announced the termination of its contract with Taeil, a member of the popular K-pop group NCT. The agency issued a statement on October 16, revealing that the contract was dissolved as of October 15, 2024.
The statement read:
“We would like to inform you that our exclusive contract with Taeil has been terminated. Taeil is currently under investigation by the prosecution for a criminal case, which constitutes grounds for termination under our contract. Due to the circumstances, it has become impossible to maintain trust in him as an artist. Consequently, both parties have mutually agreed to end the contract.”
This announcement comes in the wake of serious allegations against Taeil. In August, he departed from NCT following accusations of sexual offenses. Recent reports indicate that he is now under investigation for aggravated quasi-rape, allegedly involving two acquaintances and an intoxicated woman.
SM Entertainment expressed regret over the situation, stating, “We sincerely apologize once again for any concern caused by Taeil, who was previously one of our artists.” As this high-profile case unfolds, it raises questions about accountability and the impact of such allegations in the K-pop industry.
