Get ready, Beatles fans! A captivating new documentary titled “Beatles ’64,” produced by the legendary Martin Scorsese and directed by David Tedeschi, is set to land on Disney+ on November 29. This film takes a deep dive into the Fab Four’s iconic 1964 trip to America, featuring exclusive, never-before-seen footage that captures the frenzy of Beatlemania and the unwavering adoration of their young fans.
“Beatles ’64” chronicles the band’s arrival in New York City in February 1964, marking a pivotal moment when John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr solidified their status as the biggest band in the world. The documentary promises to unveil a more intimate behind-the-scenes look at the Beatles as they made their historic debut on “The Ed Sullivan Show,” which attracted over 73 million viewers—making it the most-watched television event at the time.
What sets this documentary apart is the rare footage filmed by renowned documentarians Albert and David Maysles, all beautifully restored in 4K by Park Road Post in New Zealand. The film also features fresh interviews with the two surviving Beatles, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, offering fans unique insights into their journey during this extraordinary period.
Joining Scorsese in production are a stellar team including Margaret Bodde, McCartney, Starr, Olivia Harrison, Sean Ono Lennon, Jonathan Clyde, and Mikaela Beardsley. Executive producers include Jeff Jones and Rick Yorn, ensuring a high-caliber project from start to finish.
This isn’t Scorsese’s first brush with the Beatles. Back in 2011, he directed “George Harrison: Living in the Material World,” a documentary about the life of the beloved guitarist. Scorsese’s knack for music documentaries also includes works focused on Bob Dylan and The Band.
As a treat for fans, just a week before the documentary’s release on November 22, a special vinyl collection titled “The Beatles: 1964 U.S. Albums in Mono” will hit the shelves. This boxed set features seven American Beatles albums that have been out of print since 1995, including classics like “Meet The Beatles!” and “A Hard Day’s Night.”
Mark your calendars for a November to remember as “Beatles ’64” hits Disney+, giving fans a front-row seat to the magic and mayhem of the Beatles’ early American adventure!
