GrX Studio, known for its hit series “Copycat Killer,” is making waves in the entertainment world with bold plans for international expansion. At a lively event on the sidelines of the Busan International Film Festival, the company announced the launch of a staggering $50 million fund, dubbed the “Asia Spring Fund.” This initiative aims to invest in 15 Mandarin-language series and five spine-tingling horror films over the next five years, solidifying Taiwan’s growing influence in Asian film and television.

The buzz at the event was palpable as the studio showcased its current projects, highlighting the impressive array of talent involved. Taiwanese actor Ning Chang and Vietnam’s Lien Binh Phat were on hand to discuss their roles in “The Outlaw Doctor,” a gripping crime series now in post-production. This ambitious project is a collaboration with Public Television Service Foundation (PTS) and Chunghwa Telecom (CHT), promising to keep audiences on the edge of their seats.

In addition, GrX revealed exciting titles on its slate, including the horror film “Trapped in Yellow” and the charming boys’ love (BL) feature “Wild With You,” led by the acclaimed producer Phoebe Ma. Thrill-seekers can also look forward to “The Ones I Killed and the Ones Who Killed Me,” a series in development that adapts the popular Japanese novel by Akira Higashiyama.

An ambitious historical series, “KOHAKU: The Traitor of the Night,” is set to explore Taiwan and Japan’s intertwined histories, directed by Lien Yi-chi and Kentaro Hagiwara. This eight-episode journey promises to weave together themes of reconstruction and speculative visions of humanity’s future. If it strikes a chord with viewers, GrX envisions this series spanning three thrilling seasons.

Adding to the mix, GrX will also distribute the tantalizing reality food show “Go! Go! Michelin” and handle international distribution for the newly launched Taiwanese-K-pop variety show “SCOOL.”

According to Dennis Wu, GrX’s strategy and chief investment officer, the Asia Spring Fund is designed to attract exceptional filmmakers from across the region. “Through this initiative, we hope to invite talented creatives to collaborate with us,” Wu stated, highlighting Taiwan’s renaissance as a hotbed for Chinese-language productions amid shifting dynamics in the industry.

As international streamers face challenges in mainland China, Taiwan’s filmmakers are seizing the moment to shine. Wu emphasized that the studio’s current lineup is unified by themes of comfort, exhilaration, and subversion, aiming to resonate with diverse audiences. With operations spanning Taiwan, mainland China, and Singapore, GrX Studio is on a mission to build and stabilize its distribution network, ensuring that these captivating stories reach viewers far and wide.

As GrX Studio takes bold steps forward, the Asian entertainment landscape is poised for an exciting transformation, inviting audiences to dive into a world of innovative storytelling and rich cultural narratives.
