Global fan communication platform Dear U is making its debut in the U.S. market by partnering with Latin music stars J Balvin and Peso Pluma. Launching on September 30, the new U.S. version of the “bubble” app allows these artists to engage personally with fans worldwide. This initiative is part of Dear U’s strategy to expand beyond its strong presence in Asia, where over 600 artists, including prominent K-Pop figures, are already part of the platform. The app boasts over 2 million paid subscriptions, with 73% of users located outside Korea.
In a statement, Balvin expressed his enthusiasm for connecting with fans, saying, “It has always been important to be connected to my fans, La Familia. I love reading comments and conversations, so it’s exciting to communicate with fans no matter what their first language might be.” Peso Pluma echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of his fans: “Peso Pluma wouldn’t exist without our dedicated fans… our music is crossing borders.”
In other industry news, Sony Music Publishing UK has signed singer-songwriter Myles Smith to a global publishing agreement. Following the success of his debut EP, “You Promised A Lifetime,” and his platinum single “Stargazing,” Myles has been making waves, performing at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend and embarking on sold-out tours across the U.S. and Canada. Sony’s Senior Director of A&R, Saul Fitton, praised him as a “once-in-a-generation talent.”
Additionally, Becky G is partnering with The Vita Coco Company to create a new green space at her childhood elementary school in Inglewood, California. The project, designed with input from the school community, will feature garden plots, compost bins, and an outdoor classroom, reflecting Becky’s commitment to her roots.
Adam Wright has been appointed CFO and managing partner of Breakaway, an independent live music company, where he will spearhead financial operations and strategic growth. Wright’s background includes a significant tenure at Sony, making him a valuable asset to Breakaway’s future endeavors.
