Korean-made crime-comedy-thriller “I, The Executioner,” a sequel to the 2015 hit ‘Veteran,’ continues to top the South Korean weekend box office. In its third weekend, it earned $3.03 million, capturing a 53% market share, according to data from Kobis, the tracking service of the Korean Film Council (Kofic). With a total of $47 million since its release on September 13, it now ranks as the fourth highest-grossing film of the year, trailing behind “Exhuma,” “The Roundup: Punishment,” and “Inside Out 2,” which leads at $64 million.
Opening in second place, “Transformers One” generated $917,000 from Friday to Sunday, securing a 16% market share. Its full five-day opening brought in $1.43 million.
In third place, the re-released “Begin Again” earned $269,000 over the weekend, bringing its cumulative total (including its 2014 debut) to over $21 million.
“Heartsping: Teenieping of Love” solidified its status as the highest-grossing Korean animated film of all time, adding $211,000 to a cumulative total of $7.83 million since its debut on August 3.
Rounding out the top five, “Jung Kook I Am Still,” a concert film featuring BTS member Jung Kook, placed fifth in revenue but ranked tenth in local charts due to lower ticket sales. It earned $130,000, bringing its total to $1.30 million.
Other films on the chart saw minimal impact, as the weekend box office continued to be dominated by these top titles.
