Ridley Scott is already considering a third installment of the “Gladiator” franchise, despite the upcoming release of “Gladiator II” on November 15 internationally and November 22 in the US and Canada. In an interview with French magazine Premiere, Scott shared, “With that, I’m already toying with the idea of Gladiator 3. No, seriously! I’ve lit the fuse…” He likened the ending of “Gladiator II” to a pivotal moment in “The Godfather,” where the protagonist grapples with responsibilities he never wanted, stating that the next film will explore a character who finds himself in a position he did not choose.

“Gladiator II” stars Paul Mescal as Lucius, who as a child witnessed the death of Maximus, portrayed by Russell Crowe in the original 2000 film. Now grown, Lucius must fight in the Colosseum to restore glory to Rome. The sequel also features Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, and Connie Nielsen reprising her role as Lucilla, Lucius’ mother.

Quinn noted that the 86-year-old Scott exhibits a remarkable “thirst for life and also filmmaking” on set, promising excitement for both the sequel and the potential trilogy conclusion. Paramount has yet to comment on the future of the franchise.
