My Dress-Up Darling is set to make its live-action debut, with a TV drama adaptation slated to premiere in Japan on October 8, 2024. The series will air on MBS and TBS, showcasing a fresh take on the beloved manga.
20-year-old Kota Nomura will star as Wakana Gojo, marking his first lead role in a terrestrial drama series, while 22-year-old Riko Nagase will play Marin Kitagawa. The official announcement was accompanied by a first-look image of the two main characters shared on X (formerly Twitter). Both actors expressed their enthusiasm for their roles on the official website.
Koji Shintoku, known for his work on Peach Girl, Honey So Sweet, and Honey Lemon Soda, will direct the series. Satoko Okazaki, who has previously adapted Waiting for Spring, will handle the scriptwriting. Kyōdō Television is producing the live-action adaptation.
The live-action series is based on Shinichi Fukuda’s manga, which began serialization in January 2018 and has sold over 11 million copies as of May 2024. The manga’s anime adaptation premiered in January 2022, and a sequel has been announced.
The story follows the shy and introverted Wakana Gojo, who is encouraged by his popular classmate Marin Kitagawa to use his talent for crafting hina dolls to make cosplay costumes. As their relationship develops, Gojo remains unaware of Kitagawa’s growing feelings for him.
