Google has announced plans to open its second data center in Latin America, located in Canelones, Uruguay, with an investment exceeding $850 million. This new facility follows the company’s first data center in Quilicura, Chile, which began operations in 2015 with an initial investment of $150 million and a subsequent $140 million expansion in 2018.

The tech giant aims for the Canelones data center to boost professional and technological development across Uruguay and the broader region, as stated in a company blog post.

In addition to the Latin American expansion, Reuters reports that Google is also considering a major data center project near Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, expected to be operational by 2027. Earlier this year, Google announced a $3 billion investment in a new data center campus in Indiana and expansion in Virginia, as well as a $2 billion investment in Malaysia for its first data center and Google Cloud region in the country.
