MTV has announced that Shawn Mendes, Karol G, Anitta, and LL Cool J will join the lineup for the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, set to take place live on September 11th at 8 p.m. ET/PT from New York’s UBS Arena. This announcement adds to a star-studded roster that already includes Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, GloRilla, Camila Cabello, Rauw Alejandro, Benson Boone, Halsey, Lenny Kravitz, and Blackpink’s Lisa.
Anitta will return to the VMAs stage for the third consecutive year, delivering a vibrant medley featuring “Savage Funk” and “Alegria,” along with the world premiere of her new track “Paradise,” which will include guest appearances by Fat Joe, DJ Khaled, and Tiago PZK. Anitta, who made history as the first Brazilian to win a VMA in 2022, is nominated for three awards this year, including two in the “Best Latin” category.
Karol G will also make her return, following her successful VMAs debut last year with “Oki Doki” / “Tá Ok.” She won her first Moon Person in 2023 for “Best Collaboration” with Shakira and will perform new material this year.
LL Cool J, making his return after a 25-year hiatus from VMAs performances, will showcase new music from his upcoming album “The Force.” LL Cool J, who won his first Moon Person in 1991 for “Best Rap,” celebrated Hip-Hop’s 50th Anniversary with a memorable tribute last year.
Shawn Mendes will take the stage to perform for the first time a song from his upcoming fifth studio album.
The VMAs, originally scheduled for September 10th, have been moved to September 11th to avoid conflict with the first debate of the election cycle between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.
Taylor Swift leads the VMA nominations with ten, followed by Post Malone with nine, largely for his duet with Swift, “Fortnight.” Sabrina Carpenter, Ariana Grande, and Eminem each have six nominations, while Megan Thee Stallion and SZA are up for five awards each. Lisa, Olivia Rodrigo, and Teddy Swims have four nominations apiece.
