Zsófia Szilágyi’s latest film, January 2, has released its trailer in anticipation of its premiere at the Venice Film Festival. Films Boutique is managing the international sales for the film.
January 2, which is part of the Biennale College selection, centers on Klára, who leaves her home shared with her husband and is assisted by her friend Ági in the moving process. The film explores the emotional and logistical challenges of separation from a wife’s perspective through seven repetitive yet distinct car journeys.
This marks Szilágyi’s return to the festival circuit following her acclaimed debut feature One Day, which premiered at Cannes Critics’ Week in 2018 and won the Fipresci Award. One Day enjoyed a robust international festival run, including awards and nominations at events like Sydney, New Horizons, Melbourne, and Sarajevo.
The Venice Film Festival premiere of January 2 is Szilágyi’s second collaboration with Films Boutique, following the success of One Day. Gábor Greiner, COO of Films Boutique, praised Szilágyi for her ability to vividly and authentically portray relationship dynamics, solidifying her reputation as a leading Hungarian filmmaker of her generation.
The film stars Csenge Jóvári and Zsuzsanna Konrád, with producers Dóra Csernátony and Lili Horvát of Poste Restante and associate producer Gábor Rajna.
