Emilia Clarke will star in and executive produce “Ponies,” a new espionage thriller series ordered straight to series by Peacock.
Created by Susanna Fogel (“The Flight Attendant,” “The Spy Who Dumped Me”) and David Iserson, “Ponies” is set in Moscow in 1977. The series follows two secretaries at the American Embassy who, after their husbands are mysteriously killed in the USSR, become CIA operatives. Clarke plays Bea, a highly educated, Russian-speaking child of Soviet immigrants, while her partner, Twila, is a daring small-town girl. Together, they delve into a vast Cold War conspiracy to uncover the truth behind their husbands’ deaths.
Fogel will direct the series, with Iserson serving as showrunner. Jessica Rhoades will executive produce under her Pacesetter Productions banner, with Alison Mo Massey and Katherine Bridle as co-executive producers. Universal Television will produce.
This role marks Clarke’s second major TV project announced recently. She is also set to star in Amazon’s upcoming series “Criminal.” Known for her iconic role as Daenerys Targaryen in HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” Clarke has also appeared in Marvel’s “Secret Invasion,” and films such as “Me Before You” and “Solo: A Star Wars Story.”
“Ponies” joins Peacock’s growing lineup of espionage content, including a new spy series starring Simu Liu and produced by James Wan.
Clarke is represented by CAA, Range Media Partners, and other agencies. Fogel and Iserson are repped by UTA and other agencies.
