North Korea has vehemently condemned the revised nuclear strategic plan recently approved by U.S. President Joe Biden, marking a significant escalation in the country’s rhetoric against Washington. On Saturday, North Korea’s foreign ministry expressed serious concerns over the updated U.S. nuclear posture, which it views as a direct threat to its security and sovereignty.

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) denounced the strategic plan as an attempt to justify the U.S.’s nuclear arms buildup and provocative posture. According to a statement released by state media KCNA, North Korea is committed to enhancing its own strategic capabilities in response to what it perceives as dangerous U.S. policies. The statement emphasized that the DPRK will continue to build its nuclear force to defend against perceived threats, maintaining its planned timetable despite U.S. actions.

The White House had clarified earlier in the week that the revised nuclear strategy was not specifically aimed at any single country but was instead a broader adjustment to address the growing nuclear capabilities of multiple global actors. This includes China, whose expansion of its nuclear arsenal has been a particular concern. The plan also accounts for potential coordinated nuclear challenges from China, Russia, and North Korea.

China’s foreign ministry has voiced its own concerns about the U.S. strategic shift, highlighting the potential for increased global nuclear tensions. The New York Times report, which brought the revised strategy to light, noted that the U.S. aims to prepare for possible joint nuclear threats from these nations.

North Korea’s strong response underscores the increasing friction between Pyongyang and Washington, further complicating the global nuclear landscape.
