Matthew Rhys has been cast alongside Claire Danes in Netflix’s upcoming limited series “The Beast in Me,” Variety has confirmed. The series, which was announced in March with Danes in the lead role, explores a dark and gripping narrative.

The series follows Aggie Wiggs (Danes), an acclaimed author who, after the tragic death of her young son, has retreated from public life and lost her ability to write. Her world is turned upside down when Nile Sheldon (Rhys), a notorious real estate mogul and former suspect in his wife’s disappearance, moves in next door. Fascinated and repelled by Sheldon, Aggie becomes obsessed with uncovering the truth about him, engaging in a dangerous game of cat and mouse that threatens to unravel her own life.

Rhys, known for his role in the critically acclaimed FX series “The Americans,” where he earned three consecutive Emmy nominations and won in 2018, is also recognized for his recent work in HBO’s “Perry Mason” and films such as “Burnt” and “The Post.” He is represented by CAA, Anonymous Content, and United Agents.

Gabe Rotter, who serves as creator, writer, and executive producer, is joined by Howard Gordon as showrunner and executive producer. Danes, Daniel Pearle, and Antonio Campos will also executive produce, with Campos directing. Conan O’Brien, Jeff Ross, David Kissinger, and Jodie Foster are also on board as executive producers, with 20th Television producing the series.

Deadline first reported Rhys’ casting.
