Megan Thee Stallion will make her debut as an awards show host at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, the network announced on Thursday. This marks her first time in a leading hosting role, though she has previously co-hosted “Saturday Night Live” and “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”
At the VMAs, Megan is nominated for five awards—the most of any hip-hop artist this year—including best collaboration with GloRilla and best hip-hop. Her connection with the VMAs dates back five years, starting with a win for best power anthem for “Hot Girl Summer.”
Earlier this year, Megan released her third album, “Megan,” her first as an independent artist through her Hot Girl Productions label, distributed by Warner Music Group. Her latest single, “Mamushi,” has garnered 150 million streams and follows her No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hit “Hiss,” a diss track aimed at Nicki Minaj. “Mamushi” is a standout track from the new album, accompanied by a music video filmed in Tokyo featuring Megan and actor Shô Kasamatsu.
Megan is also headlining her first tour, with a notable stop at Madison Square Garden where she performed alongside Cardi B and opener GloRilla. Recently, she performed at a rally for presidential candidate Kamala Harris, expressing her support with a dynamic set.
The MTV VMAs will air live from New York’s UBS Arena on September 11 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. The lineup of performers includes Benson Boone, Halsey, Lenny Kravitz, and Lisa from Blackpink, among others. Katy Perry will receive the Video Vanguard Award, and Taylor Swift leads the nominations with 10, followed by Post Malone with nine. Megan Thee Stallion and SZA are each up for five awards, with additional nominees including Lisa, Olivia Rodrigo, and Teddy Swims.
