In a tragic development, the body of British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch has been recovered from the wreckage of a yacht that sank earlier this week off the coast of Sicily. According to Reuters, Lynch’s remains were discovered on Thursday following a harrowing search operation. His 18-year-old daughter, Hannah Lynch, remains unaccounted for.
The 56-meter British-flagged sailing yacht, named “Bayesian,” sank early Monday morning after being struck by a waterspout—a rare meteorological phenomenon similar to a mini-tornado. The yacht was anchored about 700 meters off Porticello, near Palermo on the northern coast of the Italian island.
Divers had previously located a fifth body, which was only identified later in the day. This incident has now resulted in a death toll of six, with one individual still missing.
Fifteen survivors were rescued from the sinking vessel, including Lynch’s wife and a woman with a one-year-old baby. In addition to Lynch, those reported missing include his lawyer, Christopher Morvillo, and his wife Neda, as well as Jonathan Bloomer, chair of Morgan Stanley International, and his wife Judy.
The search and rescue operation, spanning over three days, underscores the intense and ongoing efforts to locate the missing and provide closure to the affected families.
