Carlos Alcaraz has made history at the Paris 2024 Olympics by becoming the youngest player to reach the men’s tennis final. The 21-year-old Spanish sensation delivered a stunning performance on Friday, dispatching Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime with a commanding 6-1, 6-1 victory in just 75 minutes.

Alcaraz’s win, which showcased his incredible skill and dominance, ensures his place in the Olympic final. He will face either Novak Djokovic, should the top-seeded Serb recover from a knee injury and overcome Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in the second semifinal, or Musetti himself if Djokovic is unable to play.

Reflecting on his accomplishment, Alcaraz expressed his determination and excitement. “It has been an objective since the start of the year to try and win the gold medal and now we have one match left to try and get it done,” said Alcaraz. “I want to have fun in the final and do the business.”

The match was played on the Roland Garros court where Alcaraz won the French Open earlier in June. He broke the 19th-ranked Auger-Aliassime three times in the first set, winning six consecutive games to assert his dominance. In the second set, Alcaraz broke serve again in the fourth and sixth games, further cementing his superiority.

“This was a very complete performance and I played at a very high level from start to finish,” Alcaraz remarked. “I had very good feelings and sensations; I’m so happy.”

With this victory, Alcaraz joins an elite group of Spanish players who have reached the Olympic men’s final. He is the third Spaniard to do so, following Jordi Arrese in Barcelona 1992, Sergi Bruguera in Atlanta 1996, and Rafael Nadal, who won gold in Beijing 2008.

Alcaraz now has the chance to become the youngest men’s Olympic tennis champion since the sport returned to the Games in Seoul in 1988. As he prepares for the final, the tennis world is abuzz with anticipation for what promises to be a thrilling conclusion to the Olympic tennis tournament.
