Universal Pictures has secured the rights to a biopic based on Britney Spears’s best-selling memoir, The Woman In Me. The announcement, made Thursday, reveals that Jon Chu, known for Crazy Rich Asians, will direct the film, while Marc Platt, the producer behind La La Land, will oversee the project.
Spears’s memoir, published last October, details her transformation from a child star into a global pop icon, alongside her personal struggles and legal battles, particularly her contentious conservatorship. The book has resonated widely, selling over 2.5 million copies in the U.S. alone.
In a social media post, Spears expressed her excitement about the film adaptation, stating, “Excited to share with my fans that I’ve been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt. He’s always made my favorite movies.” She urged fans to stay tuned for further updates.
The biopic promises to delve into the tumultuous journey that Spears has faced, from her rise to fame to her public breakdown and battles with her family and the entertainment industry. The film is anticipated to provide an intimate look into the life of one of pop culture’s most enduring figures.
