Jason Reitman’s highly anticipated film about the origins of “Saturday Night Live” now has an official title and release date. Formerly known as “SNL 1975,” the movie will be released under the new title “Saturday Night” on October 11, 2024. This date marks exactly 49 years since the groundbreaking show first aired on NBC.
“Saturday Night” will offer an in-depth look at the tumultuous and magical moments leading up to SNL’s premiere. The film, written by Reitman and Gil Kenan, promises to capture the chaos and excitement of the inaugural broadcast, recounting how a group of young comedians and writers revolutionized television.
The cast is packed with talented actors portraying the iconic figures of SNL’s first cast and crew. Gabriel LaBelle will play Lorne Michaels, the show’s creator, while Cory Michael Smith takes on the role of Chevy Chase. Dylan O’Brien will portray Dan Aykroyd, and Matt Wood is set to play John Belushi.
Lamorne Morris and Ella Hunt will play Garrett Morris and Gilda Radner, respectively, with Kim Matula as Jane Curtin and Emily Fairn as Laraine Newman. Cooper Hoffman will embody Dick Ebersol, and Rachel Sennott will portray Rosie Shuster. Finn Wolfhard will appear as an NBC Page, and Nicholas Braun will take on the role of Jim Henson.
The cast also includes Jon Batiste as Billy Preston, Naomi McPherson as Janis Ian, Nicholas Podany as Billy Crystal, Tommy Dewey as Michael O’Donoghue, and Willem Dafoe as David Tebet. J.K. Simmons will play Milton Berle, while Taylor Gray will portray Al Franken. Joe Chrest, Mcabe Gregg, Andrew Barth Feldman, Kaia Gerber, and Billy Bryk round out the ensemble with key roles.
