Tom Daley earned his fifth Olympic medal with a remarkable silver performance alongside partner Noah Williams in the men’s synchronized 10m platform event at the Paris Olympics.
Daley, 30, had effectively retired from competitive diving after clinching gold in Tokyo. However, he made a triumphant return to the Olympic stage, showing exceptional composure with Williams, 24. The British duo put up a strong challenge but ultimately finished behind China’s Lian Junjie and Yang Hao, who delivered a dominant performance to secure gold after winning three consecutive world titles.
Daley had been away from the sport for two years but was motivated to come out of retirement by his son Robbie, now six, who expressed a desire to see his father compete at the Olympics.
In the Paris Aquatics Centre, Daley’s family, including his husband Dustin Lance Black and their two sons, Robbie and Phoenix, provided enthusiastic support. Daley was visibly moved, especially when he blew a kiss to his family from the medal podium.
“This is so special,” Daley remarked. “Achieving this in front of my son, who asked me to come back, makes it even more meaningful. I now have a medal of every color, completing the set.”
For Williams, this medal marks his first Olympic accolade. Reflecting on the performance, he praised Daley’s diving skills and noted how the strong competition from China inspired him to elevate his own performance.
“This is an amazing moment for me,” said Williams. “Tom’s incredible diving and the challenge from China pushed me to deliver at my best.”
With this result, Team GB has now earned five medals in Paris, including three silvers and two bronzes.
