With Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings ready for its dramatic introduction this end of the week, much has been said about the film’s readiness to go to dark spots. In a new meeting with Comicbook.com, Shang-Chi maker Jonathan Schwartz tended to that darkness and outlined it as a narrating opportunity, instead of something to avoid. Peruse his clarification beneath:

I think placing them in the headspace of youthful Shang-Chi … I accept that that is important for what you’re discussing when you talk about the darkness. It was energizing. It felt energizing. It felt instinctive. It seemed like we were truly getting at something cool. Thus, as a general rule, in case there’s a second or a thought or an inclination that alarms us, we feel hazard, all of us resemble, ‘Goodness, we’ll realize we’ll generally do it and put it all on the line and run at it.’ And then, at that point, on the off chance that it seems like you’ve gone excessively far, you can generally pull back. Yet, I think we’ve figured out how to sort of trust those sentiments to hold us back from obstructing ourselves.

In light of the entirety of that, it’s sensible to accept that the darkness of Shang-Chi could actually benefit the film. Films like Black Panther and the Captain America establishment regularly dug into dark topic while as yet pushing the Marvel story forward, frequently to incredible impact. For some fans, the comic book type works best when it tends to dark ideas head-on and doesn’t avoid the severity of a story. Presently it seems as though Shang-Chi is ready to proceed with that custom for Marvel. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will make a big appearance in venues on September 3.
