President Joe Biden has tested positive for COVID-19, as confirmed by the White House press secretary on Wednesday. The announcement followed Mr. Biden’s participation in an event in Las Vegas, where he was set to address the UnidosUS conference, focusing on Latino civil rights and advocacy.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated that despite being fully vaccinated and boosted, President Biden is experiencing mild symptoms. As a precautionary measure, he will return to Delaware to self-isolate while continuing to fulfill his presidential responsibilities.
“He will carry out all of his duties fully during that time,” Jean-Pierre assured in a statement. “The White House will provide regular updates on the President’s status as he remains in isolation.”
This development comes amidst ongoing efforts by the Biden administration to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and underscores the virus’s continued impact despite vaccination efforts.
