Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, is set to reinforce its status as a healthcare hub with the approval of a groundbreaking project by Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council. The ambitious initiative, slated to be completed by 2027, involves the establishment of a dedicated medical city for women and children. The project, approved in collaboration with the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi and PureHealth, is a strategic move aimed at enhancing specialized healthcare services for the vulnerable demographic.
The medical city is poised to become a symbol of excellence in women and children’s healthcare, boasting a comprehensive range of services and facilities. The facility will house 205 beds, with 90 dedicated to pediatric care and 15 maternity wards, providing a nurturing environment for mothers and newborns. The medical team will comprise over 130 doctors and 460 nursing and midwifery specialists, ensuring a high standard of care in various medical domains.
One of the key components of the project is the establishment of the Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC), which will host a Center of Excellence (CoE) specializing in pediatric care. The CoE, equipped with 250 beds and staffed by 200 doctors, will offer a wide array of services, including oncology, ophthalmology, neurosurgery, and transplantation of vital organs such as liver, kidney, and bowel. The center will not only provide advanced medical care but also foster research and innovation in the realm of children’s health.
The Corniche Hospital, dedicated to women and newborns, will also be part of the medical city. This facility will be strategically located near the Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, promoting seamless integration of services within the medical city. The holistic approach extends further with the inclusion of a rehabilitation facility and a mental health center, addressing the diverse healthcare needs of women and children.
The comprehensive services offered by the medical city cover obstetrics and gynecology, fertility and assisted reproductive services, as well as women’s mental and general health. This multifaceted approach aligns with global trends in healthcare, emphasizing the importance of addressing the specific needs of women and children.
