KUWAIT CITY, Jan 9: The Ministry of Education in Kuwait is seeking approval for a budget amounting to KD 2.7 billion for the fiscal year 2024/2025, according to sources reported by Al-Anba daily. The Financial Sector within the Ministry of Education has prepared the draft budget, which has been submitted to the Ministry of Finance for consideration and approval.
The draft budget primarily focuses on salaries and bonuses, exceeding KD 2 billion. This substantial allocation is attributed to the increase in the number of employees within the educational and administrative sectors. The rise in staff numbers is concurrent with the opening of new schools and future plans to establish more educational institutions, driven by urban expansion and the establishment of residential areas such as Mutlaa, West Abdullah Mubarak, and others.
Sources indicate that the Ministry of Education currently employs approximately 143,000 individuals, encompassing both teachers and administrators. Notably, the salaries component accounts for nearly 90 percent of the proposed budget.
In light of the ongoing developments, grade 12 students in the scientific, literary, and religious education sections are actively participating in exams for the first academic period. The Arabic Language test marked the commencement of the examination process, with a break scheduled for Tuesday. Exams are set to resume on Wednesday.
Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education, Anwar Al-Hamdan, has been conducting field tours to oversee the examination committees in religious education institutes. Accompanied by acting Assistant Undersecretary for Public Education Hessa Al-Mutawa and acting Assistant Undersecretary for Special Education Dr Salman Al-Lafito, Al-Hamdan is personally ensuring the smooth progress of examination processes.
Highlighting the commitment to quality education, Al-Mutawa emphasized that there are four religious institutes for the secondary stage, accommodating a total of 794 students. The recent visits to Abdul Rahman Al-Sumait Religious Secondary Institute for boys and Cordoba Religious Institute for girls underscore the Ministry’s dedication to implementing regulations that guarantee the quality of education and foster the advancement of the educational process.
As Kuwait continues to invest significantly in its education sector, the proposed budget reflects the government’s commitment to providing the necessary resources for the growth and development of the education system, catering to the increasing demand for educational services resulting from population growth and urban expansion.
