Advancement on Nope was first reported in late 2020 as Peele rejoined with Universal Pictures for a then-untitled horror film that he would compose, directing and producing and a Summer 2022 release date set. Casting for the film would begin the following year as Peele started building an ensemble roster including Get Out’s Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Steven Yeun, Barbie Ferreira, Brandon Perea and Michael Wincott.
