Pharrell, receiving the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award, took a moment to urge empathy and compassion in leadership:
“I want to pray for the leaders of this nation…that they find empathy, grace, and mercy for people who may not have been born here but love this country just as much as we do.”

Kirk Franklin Honored as a Black Music Icon

Gospel legend Kirk Franklin was celebrated with the Black Music Icon Award. The 20-time Grammy winner performed a medley of his iconic tracks, including “Stomp” and “Silver and Gold.”

In his acceptance speech, Franklin reflected on unity and faith:
“I learned early about a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and never wanted to be afraid to fall in love with Him. It hurts to see faith become divisive…My hope is to make God proud by how I love and treat people, walking in humility.”

Brandy Receives Icon Status

R&B sensation Brandy was honored with a Black Music Icon Award as well. Flo, the rising girl group, paid tribute with a medley of Brandy and Monica’s hits, including:

  • “The Boy Is Mine”
  • “Full Moon” (Coco Jones)
  • “I Wanna Be Down” (Kehlani)

Brandy performed “Almost Doesn’t Count” and shared her heartfelt thoughts:
“I am truly honored and grateful to be standing here celebrating music and legacy; never did I imagine my name and the word ‘icon’ would ever merge. I am humbly just a vessel chosen to use the gift to inspire, touch, and change lives.”
