Nicole Kidman has opened up about her intense experience filming the highly anticipated erotic thriller Babygirl, revealing that she felt “very exposed” during production. In a candid interview with Vanity Fair, Kidman discussed her apprehensions about the film, which is set to have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival before its U.S. release by A24 on December 25.

Kidman, known for her diverse roles and fearless approach to acting, described Babygirl as one of the most challenging projects she has ever undertaken. “It left me ragged,” she admitted. “At some point, I was like, I don’t want to be touched. I don’t want to do this anymore, but at the same time, I was compelled to do it.” Her emotional journey on set involved close collaboration with director Halina Reijn, who is known for her work on Bodies Bodies Bodies. Kidman noted that the filming process was so intimate and confronting that it felt like something that “normally is going to be seen by the world” was actually more private, like “something you do and hide in your home videos.”

In Babygirl, Kidman plays a successful businesswoman whose seemingly perfect life with her husband, portrayed by Antonio Banderas, takes a turn when she begins an affair with a new intern, played by Harris Dickinson. The film explores complex themes of desire, power, and personal boundaries, pushing Kidman to explore emotional depths she found both challenging and revealing. “I felt very exposed as an actor, as a woman, as a human being,” she reflected. “I had to go in and go out like, I need to put my protection back on. What have I just done? Where did I go? What did I do?”

The film’s exploration of provocative themes and Kidman’s raw portrayal highlight her willingness to tackle difficult and often taboo subjects. This film marks a notable departure from her previous roles, adding a new dimension to her already impressive career. The Venice Film Festival will offer the first look at this bold project, generating considerable buzz ahead of its broader release.

Nicole Kidman’s recent interview has sparked a significant amount of media attention and discussion, particularly given her openness about the emotional toll of her role. Fans and critics alike are eager to see how Babygirl will be received, given its intense subject matter and Kidman’s fearless performance.
