After nearly two decades of anticipation, Disney has officially kicked off production for ‘Freaky Friday 2’, bringing back the beloved duo of Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis. The original 2003 comedy, which enchanted audiences with its hilarious body-swapping antics, is set for a sequel that promises to continue the magical legacy.
The project’s revival gained momentum after Lindsay Lohan’s return to acting in 2022 with the holiday film ‘Falling for Christmas’, reigniting interest in revisiting her iconic role alongside Jamie Lee Curtis. Jamie Lee herself had been advocating for the sequel, expressing her enthusiasm to explore new comedic dynamics, including potentially swapping roles to see Lindsay as the “hot grandma.”
Confirmation of the sequel came in waves, with Lindsay affirming the green light during an interview on Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM show in March 2024. “It is [happening]. I don’t want to say too much, but it’s [happening]. And we’re both excited,” Lindsay shared, speaking on behalf of herself and Jamie Lee.
Production officially commenced on June 24th, 2024, as Disney Studios shared a celebratory Instagram post featuring Lindsay and Jamie Lee back in their roles as the Colemans, signaling a return to theaters in 2025. Fans can expect the same heartwarming hilarity that made the original film a classic, now with the added twist of new adventures and possibly the inclusion of Chad Michael Murray, who joins the cast for the sequel.
As details unfold and excitement builds, ‘Freaky Friday 2’ promises to deliver another memorable journey into the whimsical world of body-swapping comedy, reuniting old fans and captivating new audiences alike.
