TV presenter Melissa Doyle caught up with her old Sunrise colleagues David ‘Kochie’ Koch and Natalie Barr on Tuesday. The 52-year-old, who used to host Sunrise with Kochie from 2002 to 2013, appeared on the Channel Seven breakfast show to promote her new book 15 Seconds of Brave.

She explained how an interview she had conducted a decade ago had inspired her to write her book, which is all about Australians overcoming adversity. ‘We interviewed a woman whose son Noah was born with a terminal illness. Every time he goes into hospital he says he can be brave for 15 seconds,’ Melissa said. Kochie was stunned by the heart-wrenching story, saying it really puts your own issues in perspective.

She has been busy this year, recently presenting Nine’s observational prison series Australia Behind Bars, but she returned to Seven to host This Is Your Life. Speaking to the Daily Telegraph in April, Mel said she was ‘honoured to continue the legacy of such an iconic program’.

Melissa agreed and said one of the reasons she enjoys hosting Seven’s reboot of This Is Your Life is because she loves hearing people’s stories. Mel hosted Sunrise from 2002 until 2013, when she was replaced by Sam Armytage.

It was announced in August 2020 that Mel would be leaving Seven after an incredible 25 years with the network. During her career, she hosted several of Seven’s flagship programs, including Sunrise, Today Tonight, Sunday Night and The Latest.

Based on the original American format, This Is Your Life showcases the life of a guest celebrity, sports star, performer or high achiever in a certain discipline each episode, with contributions from family and friends.
