The mum of a 20-year-old man killed with a single punch from behind while he tried to stop a fight has said she wants everyone to watch video of the fatal blow.Dean Skillin was killed by a punch thrown from behind by Brandon Sillence outside a pub in Bangor, Wales in September 2020.

In December 2021 Sillence, 25, of Toronnen, Bangor, was jailed for 10 years for manslaughter. In the 40-second clip Dean can be seen trying to act as peacemaker to defuse an altercation between his cousin Taylor Lock and another man outside the pub.

Sillence then punched Dean from behind in what a jury heard described as a “forceful, swinging punch”. Dean instantly fell backward to the floor.Sillence, a “boxing enthusiast”, also admitted assault causing actual bodily harm on Mr Lock.

Deans’ mum, Becky wrote: “I wanted to put it out there that when my son was killed there was no fight or words exchanged between Dean and Brandon.“He was in fact trying to prevent a fight breaking out between his cousin and a friend of Sillence, she added.

Dean’s family are calling for tougher sentences for one-punch killers, reports NorthWalesLive. They have launched a petition, already signed by more than 17,000, calling on the UK Government to change the sentencing so that it matches that for murder. Sillence was jailed after the jury found him not guilty of murder. The petition set up by the family of Dean Skillin, and can be signed here.

“You can clearly see by the video that the police have released, that Brandon ‘Coward’ Sillence punched my son from behind.“Dean couldn’t even see it coming, it killed him instantly because he hit him that hard and forcefully.”

She added; To all that defended Brandon by saying it was a pub fight shame on all of you.“My son and nephew were attacked by this coward, Brandon.“As the judge said he was willing to punch his own shadow that night which resulted in my son’s death, and affected our family lives forever”
