On Saturday ,Wilson died of natural causes in Tacoma, surrounded by four children, News Tribune reported.The band’s hit songs are the theme songs of “Walk, Don’t Run” and “Hawaii Five-O”. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008.
His son Tim Wilson said in a statement, “Our dad was a great rhythm guitar player who touched people all over the world in his band, The Ventures,”. “He has forever held his position in history and has been loved and appreciated a lot. He will be missed.”
The band recorded the second hit in the country in 1960 with “walking, not running”.The Ventures founders Bob Bogle and Wilson were craftsmen when they bought guitars and codebooks at Tacoma’s pawnshop in 1958.“They were really cheap guitars,” Wilson once recalled. “They weren’t in tune, but we wanted to learn.”
From the 1960s to the early 1970s, 38 of the band’s albums were charted in the United States.The Ventures had 14 singles on the Billboard Hot 100. With over 100 million records sold, The Ventures is the best-selling instrumental band in history. The band continued to perform through numerous lineup changes, but Wilson was always consistent. According to a family statement, he didn’t miss the tour until he retired in 2015.
By the following year, they had formed The Ventures, adding Nokie Edwards to bass guitar and Howie Johnson to drums.Johnson broke his head in a car accident in 1961 and died in 1988. Skip Moore played the drums on “Walk Don Trang”, Mel Taylor took over the drums, and Edwards closed the classic lineup with lead guitar. 1962.
