Lady Gaga is set to release two albums in the coming months, beginning with the announcement of “Harlequin,” a soundtrack for the upcoming film Joker: Folie à Deux, in which she stars alongside Joaquin Phoenix. Scheduled for release on September 27, the album will feature 13 tracks.
Leading up to the announcement, Gaga teased fans on Instagram with cryptic posts like “I’m ready for my interview” and “Don’t tell me what to wear.” Another post, featuring the sound of an acoustic guitar, hinted at deeper themes with the phrase, “No duct tape. No mission.” Additionally, Gaga displayed billboards featuring the number “6.5,” suggesting she views this soundtrack as distinct from her next studio album, informally referred to as “LG7.”
In her role as Lee, a reimagined Harley Quinn, Gaga described the musical aspect of Joker: Folie à Deux as “unlike anything I’ve ever done before” in a recent interview with Empire. The film is set to premiere on October 4.
The soundtrack’s tracklist includes newly recorded renditions of classic songs, such as “That’s Entertainment.” This announcement follows her recent surprise single with Bruno Mars, “Die With a Smile,” although that song will not be featured on “LG7.” Gaga revealed that she had been working on her album in Malibu and was inspired to collaborate with Mars during a late-night studio session.
Grammy-winning songwriter-producer Andrew Watt, known for his work with artists like Elton John and Ozzy Osbourne, is likely involved in the project, as evidenced by his social media activity regarding the Gaga-Mars collaboration. Gaga has also been spotted in the studio with her longtime collaborator Bloodpop and vocal producer Benjamin Rice.
At the premiere for the Chromatica Ball Film, Gaga expressed her excitement about her upcoming work, stating, “I have written so many songs and I have produced so many songs.” She added, “It’s nothing like anything that I’ve ever made before,” hinting at her desire to push musical boundaries.
