Sales agency The Playmaker Munich has successfully secured initial distribution agreements for the thriller “Sew Torn” ahead of its screening in the Noves Vision Section at the Sitges Film Festival.
The film, which has already been showcased at SXSW and Locarno, has been sold to distributors in several countries: Koba Films (France), Vertigo Releasing (U.K.), Madfer Films (Spain), King Records (Japan), and BookMyShow India (India). UTA Independent Film Group, holding North American rights, is currently in discussions with potential distributors.
“Sew Torn” marks the feature film debut of writer-director Freddy Macdonald, who previously made a short film of the same title, acquired by Searchlight Pictures. Macdonald, known for his AFI thesis film “Shedding Angels,” which won a Student Academy Award and was shortlisted for a student BAFTA, is represented by UTA.
Described as a “layered thriller with dark comedy elements,” “Sew Torn” delves into the complexities of human decision-making. The story follows Barbara Duggen (Eve Connolly), a struggling seamstress whose life takes a dramatic turn after a failed sewing appointment leads her into the middle of a drug deal gone wrong. Faced with a critical choice among committing a crime, calling the police, or fleeing, Barbara must navigate through a perilous situation involving downed motorcyclists, guns, and a mysterious briefcase.
“Sew Torn” is a U.S.-Swiss production, with Fred Macdonald (U.S.), Barry Navidi (U.S.), Sebastian Klinger (Switzerland), Diamantis Zavitsanos, and Socratis Zavitsanos (U.S.) serving as producers. The film is directed and written by Freddy Macdonald and Fred Macdonald.
