K-pop sensation BTS has achieved another milestone, with their music video for “IDOL” reaching an impressive 1.3 billion views on YouTube. This achievement marks the fifth BTS music video to surpass the billion-view mark, highlighting the group’s enduring global popularity even while they are currently on hiatus due to mandatory military service.
The video for “IDOL,” originally released on August 24, 2018, has accumulated 1.3 billion views as of September 4, 2024. This milestone underscores BTS’s remarkable influence in the music industry, particularly on the video-sharing platform. Over the past six years and ten days, the video has garnered widespread acclaim and massive viewership.
Prior to “IDOL,” BTS’s music videos for “DNA,” “Boy With Luv,” “Dynamite,” and “MIC Drop (Steve Aoki Remix)” had already reached the coveted 1.3 billion views. The group’s extensive and dedicated fanbase, known as ARMY, continues to drive their music to new heights, with “Fake Love” also nearing the billion-view threshold, expected to join the ranks soon.
Formed in 2013, BTS consists of seven members: RM, Suga, Jin, Jimin, Jungkook, V, and J-Hope. While Jin is the only member not currently enlisted in the military, the rest of the group is serving their mandatory time, with expected discharges around 2025. Despite their absence from the public eye, the group’s influence remains strong, as evidenced by their recent achievements and ongoing fan support.
BTS celebrated their 11th debut anniversary on July 13, 2024, with a two-week FESTA event, during which Jin hosted a special gathering to connect with fans. The group’s journey has included several historic achievements, such as being the first K-pop act nominated for a Grammy Award and delivering iconic hits like “Blood Sweat Tears,” “Dynamite,” “Butter,” and “ON.”
As BTS continues to captivate audiences worldwide with their music and milestones, their legacy in the K-pop industry and beyond remains firmly established.
