Korean thriller film A Girl With Closed Eyes is set to make waves as it launches in the market at the Toronto International Film Festival before its world premiere at the Busan International Film Festival in October. Finecut has been appointed as the global sales agent for the film.
Finecut is also representing By the Stream, the latest work by acclaimed Korean director Hong Sangsoo. The film, which debuted at Locarno earlier this month and earned the Best Performance Award, will be featured in the Centrepiece section at Toronto. Additionally, Finecut’s Korean horror-thriller Noise is scheduled for a premiere at the Sitges Fantasy Festival and will have a market screening in Toronto’s Industry Select.
A Girl With Closed Eyes centers on a murder suspect and a detective with a shared history who are brought together through the murder of a bestselling author. As the investigation progresses, they uncover deep-seated secrets. Currently in advanced post-production, the film marks the feature debut of director Chun Sunyoung, whose short film Good Night was showcased at Cannes Critics’ Week. Finecut will present footage of the film in Toronto. It has been selected for the Korean Cinema Today section at Busan, which highlights notable commercial films.
Kim Minha, known for her role in the acclaimed Apple TV+ series Pachinko, stars as the suspect, while Moon Choi, renowned for her roles in Deliver Us From Evil, Okja, and Anarchist From Colony, plays the detective.
Presented by Solaire Partners—famed for backing hits like Parasite, Extreme Job, 12.12: The Day, and Next Sohee—the film is generating significant buzz.
In addition to A Girl With Closed Eyes, Finecut will also introduce Exorcism Chronicles: The Beginning, an animated adaptation of a bestselling Korean novel. The film, which had its world premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, follows a doctor-turned-priest tasked with protecting a powerful but naive child from a corrupt master.
