After years of waiting, Derek Jeter, the iconic former Yankees shortstop, has finally secured a buyer for his sprawling estate nestled in Greenwood Lake, N.Y. Known as Tiedemann Castle, the property, which spans four acres of picturesque lakefront, has been a prominent fixture on the real estate market since Jeter first listed it in 2018.

Initially priced at a lofty $14.25 million, the estate failed to attract buyers despite its lavish amenities and historical charm. The subsequent auctions in 2022 also fell short of expectations, prompting Jeter to slash the asking price to a more modest $6.3 million earlier this year. This strategic move seems to have paid off, as the property entered into a contract on May 25, signaling a long-awaited success for the baseball legend.

Diane Mitchell, the listing agent from Wright Brothers Real Estate, expressed her delight at the pending sale, stating, “I am thrilled that it’s finally under contract.” The estate comprises several distinct parcels, including a main house, guesthouse, pool house, and boat house, totaling over 12,500 square feet. Its grandeur is underscored by features such as multiple kitchens, an infinity pool shaped like a baseball diamond, a game room, and ornate turrets that evoke a medieval castle’s charm.

Built over a century ago, Tiedemann Castle holds sentimental value for Jeter, who purchased it during the pinnacle of his baseball career in the early 2000s. According to local lore chronicled in Ian O’Connor’s biography “The Captain: The Journey of Derek Jeter,” the estate was once owned by John and Julia Tiedemann, adopted grandparents of Jeter’s grandfather, William “Sonny” Connors. The property holds memories of summers spent playing catch, rather than swimming, reflecting Jeter’s deep familial connections to the area.

Beyond Greenwood Lake, Jeter has been active in reshaping his real estate portfolio in recent years. In 2020, he listed his custom-built mansion in Tampa, Florida, for a staggering $29 million, eventually selling it for $22.5 million the following year—a record-breaking transaction in the region. Reports last year indicated plans to demolish the Tampa estate to make way for a new mansion, highlighting Jeter’s ongoing commitment to refining his property holdings to suit his evolving preferences.

Greenwood Lake, situated approximately 50 miles north of Manhattan, contrasts sharply with the high-profile luxury markets where Jeter has previously bought and sold homes. With a median listing price of $475,000, the village exudes a quieter, more rustic appeal, ideal for those seeking a retreat from urban life.

As Jeter’s New York estate moves closer to changing hands, its sale marks the end of an era for the baseball legend in Greenwood Lake. For Jeter, who retired from professional baseball in 2014, the sale represents more than just a financial transaction—it symbolizes a closing chapter in his longstanding association with the beloved property and the community where he once found solace amid the pressures of his career.

With the pending sale pending final approval, all eyes are on Derek Jeter as he transitions away from his Greenwood Lake retreat, paving the way for new beginnings and fresh adventures in his storied life beyond the baseball diamond.
