Minister of Sports and Youth, Zainudin Amali, officiated and sent off the Indonesian contingent to Tokyo 2020 Paralympics if will be held virtually at the ministry’s office on Saturday.
The minister said”We wish all of us success and God will be with us all,” for the event that will be held virtually on Saturday, August 14.
Zainudin Amali, the minister of sports and youth affairs, also said to the Indonesian contingent to put maximum efforts at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics as they did serious preparation before enrolling for it amid the pandemic. Also, he added that “In Tokyo, you’re not only representing yourselves but also your family, NPC and 267 million Indonesian people.
You have to compete in the name of the Indonesian nation,” he said, hoping that the athlete would give their best performance and will surely bring success to the nation.
Chef de Mission of the Indonesian Contingent Andi Herman said that the whole Merah Putih squad consists of 60 people. Apart from the athletes, there are 16 coaches and officials, 6 delegations and CdMs, 8 members of the supporting team, and 7 from the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo where this is the 11th time Indonesia is participating in the Paralympics except for the Barcelona Paralympics in 1992.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Indonesia has done breathtaking preparation, where all the sportspersons contributed to the national training in Solo from October 2020 until August 2021.
NPC Indonesia has also sent their athletes to join international events to improve their achievements and to collect qualification points that would help them in I future with the competitions.
At the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, the Merah Putih squad is targeting one gold and one silver medal from para-badminton and three bronzes, from powerlifting, para-table tennis, and para-athletic.
