Former U.S. President Donald Trump, currently the Republican presidential candidate, announced on Friday that he intends to pursue the prosecution of Google if he wins the upcoming election on November 5. In a post on Truth Social, Trump accused the tech giant of only displaying negative stories about him, stating, “It has been determined that Google has illegally used a system of only revealing and displaying bad stories about Donald J. Trump.”
Trump provided no evidence to support his claims, asserting that Google simultaneously promotes positive stories about Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. He described this behavior as “illegal activity” and expressed hope that the Justice Department would pursue criminal charges against the company for what he views as election interference. He further declared, “If not, and subject to the laws of our country, I will request their prosecution at the maximum levels when I win the election and become president of the United States.”
Google did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Trump’s allegations.
This is not the first time Trump has made such claims. In 2019, he similarly alleged that Google favored negative news coverage during the 2016 presidential election, assertions that were dismissed by the company at the time. Recently, some of Trump’s supporters have revived these allegations, including billionaire Elon Musk, who accused Google of imposing a search ban on Trump following an assassination attempt in July.
