The Zurich Film Festival is set to kick off its 20th edition on October 3 with the political thriller “The Order,” starring Jude Law. The acclaimed actor will be honored with the festival’s prestigious Golden Eye Award for his career achievements. Director Justin Kurzel will also be present for the screening.
Jude Law, known for his collaborations with some of cinema’s most celebrated directors—including Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, and Wes Anderson—has built an impressive filmography. His notable works include “The Talented Mr. Ripley” (1999), “Cold Mountain” (2003), “Sherlock Holmes” (2009), “The Grand Budapest Hotel” (2014), “The Young Pope” (2016), “The Nest” (2020), and “Fireband” (2023). Law has won a BAFTA and received Academy Award nominations on two occasions.
“The Order,” set in 1983, delves into the activities of extremist right-wing groups in the U.S., and is produced by Law’s production company, Riff Raff. The film’s timely subject matter adds to its significance.
Christian Jungen, the festival’s artistic director, praised Law, saying, “Jude Law is an absolute dream guest. Not only does he lead ‘The Order’ with exceptional charisma, but he also produced the film. Though set in 1983, it addresses the ongoing issue of right-wing extremism, making it particularly relevant today.”
Law expressed his gratitude, stating, “I am honored that ‘The Order’ will open the Zurich Film Festival. It’s a privilege to present this story, which is as pertinent now as ever. I am incredibly proud of the film and the team behind it, and receiving the Golden Eye Award is truly meaningful.”
The Zurich Film Festival runs from October 3 to 13.
