BTS’ Suga, performing under his solo moniker Agust D, continues to achieve remarkable success despite the recent DUI scandal. Known for his impactful music, Suga’s older tracks have experienced a resurgence, demonstrating the enduring support of his dedicated fanbase.
On September 4th, Suga’s track “The Last” from his debut mixtape, Agust D, hit a significant milestone by topping the Billboard World Digital Song Sales Chart for the first time since its 2016 release. This achievement underscores Suga’s enduring appeal and the powerful influence of his fan community.
The chart success extends beyond Billboard. According to Forbes, Suga’s songs “The Last” and “Polar Night” have recently made their debut on the UK’s Official Singles Sales and Downloads charts. “The Last” entered at No. 55 and No. 54 on these charts respectively, while “Polar Night” achieved similar rankings, debuting at No. 56 and No. 55. The track also soared to No. 1 on the Worldwide iTunes Song Chart on August 23.
Despite the DUI controversy, which involved Suga being investigated for driving an electric scooter under the influence, his music career has remained robust. In August, Suga’s albums D-DAY, D-2, and his debut project saw significant climbs on the Worldwide iTunes Album Chart, with several tracks from D-DAY re-entering the charts strongly.
Suga’s recent successes include making history as the only artist with five songs hitting #1 on the iTunes Country Charts worldwide. His track “The Last” also reached #1 on the U.S. iTunes Chart for the first time.
Fans and industry figures have rallied around Suga, dismissing the scandal as a media exaggeration. High-profile supporters include PSY, actress Park Sohee, The Rose’s Woosung, and Pachinko writer Lee Min Jin, among others. Many believe that the fervent support from the BTS fanbase has been a crucial factor in Suga’s continued success and resilience.
