Han So Hee, the renowned South Korean actress known for her roles in “Nevertheless” and “Gyeongseong Creature,” is once again in the spotlight, but this time for reasons unrelated to her acting career. Her mother, identified as Ms. Shin, was arrested on September 2 for allegedly operating a network of 12 illegal gambling establishments across South Korea.

According to TV Chosun, Ms. Shin, a 50-year-old woman, has been under scrutiny for her involvement with these gambling dens, which were reportedly spread across cities including Ulsan and Wonju since 2021. Ms. Shin allegedly used “proxy owners” to manage these establishments, where patrons engaged in gambling activities such as baccarat via a website managed by her.

This recent arrest adds another layer to Ms. Shin’s troubled past. Previously, she had been involved in several fraud cases, which had already strained her relationship with her daughter. In March 2022, Han So Hee’s agency, 9ato Entertainment, issued a statement distancing the actress from her mother’s illegal activities, including a substantial amount of debt incurred through fraudulent means.

According to the agency, Ms. Shin had used a bank account under Han So Hee’s name to borrow money without her daughter’s consent when Han So Hee was still a minor. This led to a legal battle where Han So Hee was not found responsible for her mother’s debts. The Ulsan District Court ruled in April 2021 that while money was borrowed using Han So Hee’s name, there was no evidence to hold her accountable for the debts.

The agency emphasized that Han So Hee had no involvement in her mother’s actions and had only learned about the extent of her mother’s financial troubles after turning 20. Despite her attempts to repay the debts before her acting career took off, the amount owed was substantial, making it impossible for her to bear alone.

Han So Hee has been largely estranged from her mother since high school, living with her grandmother from the age of five. The actress has publicly addressed her mother’s debts, expressing regret over the situation and attempting to distance herself from her mother’s legal and financial issues.

In brighter news for her fans, Han So Hee is set to reprise her role in the highly anticipated sequel of Netflix’s hit series, “Gyeongseong Creature,” alongside Park Seo Joon. The new season is slated for release on September 27, promising to bring more of the gripping drama that has captivated audiences.

As Han So Hee continues her career and manages the fallout from her mother’s legal troubles, fans and followers remain supportive, looking forward to her return to the screen in “Gyeongseong Creature” Season 2.
