Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concerts in Vienna, Austria, scheduled for August 8, 9, and 10, have been canceled following the confirmation of a planned terrorist attack. Authorities in Vienna confirmed on August 7 that two men have been arrested in connection with the plot targeting major events in the city, including Swift’s shows.
The event organizer, Barracuda Music, announced on Instagram that the cancellation was necessary for safety reasons after the government confirmed the threat. The singer’s official website also stated that tickets for the canceled concerts will be automatically refunded within the next 10 business days.
Vienna State Police Director Franz Ruf and State Police Chief Gerhard Purstl revealed that one of the suspects, a 19-year-old man, had pledged allegiance to ISIS and was found with chemical substances potentially usable for making a bomb. Another suspect was arrested later the same day. The authorities noted that the suspects had detailed plans for the attack.
This incident follows a similar situation less than a month ago when a 34-year-old man was arrested before a Swift concert in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, due to threats against Swift and her boyfriend, Travis Kelce.
Swift has previously expressed her fears about safety at her concerts, reflecting on the challenges of protecting fans in light of past tragic events like the bombing at an Ariana Grande concert and the shooting at the Route 91 Harvest music festival.
In her 2019 essay for Elle, Swift detailed the extensive planning and security measures required to ensure the safety of her fans, emphasizing the significant effort and expense involved in her tour’s security arrangements.
