Simone Biles has once again stood up against online negativity, this time in defense of her husband, NFL player Jonathan Owens. The recent wave of criticism began when Owens posted a picture on Instagram wearing Biles’ gold medal, celebrating her achievement as the most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history. The photo, which depicted the couple sharing a kiss with the medal draped around Owens’ neck, triggered a flurry of hate comments on social media.
Biles, known for her resilience in the face of online criticism, didn’t hold back. In response to a TikTok video criticizing Owens, she commented, “Crazy thing is, I put my medal on every single one of my family members and took pictures. So don’t ever make assumptions.” She added, “Like y’all are so f–ing miserable. Leave us alone.”
Despite the backlash, Owens remained supportive and unbothered. He shared another heartfelt Instagram post, praising Biles and expressing his pride. “Greatness. I love you so much, baby. You accomplish whatever you set your mind to, and do it with so much grace. 9-time Olympic medalist and counting!!!! So proud to be your husband,” Owens wrote.
The couple has faced criticism before, including when Owens referred to himself as the “catch” in their relationship on the Pivot Podcast. They brushed off the hate with Biles affirming their strong bond on social media. Owens emphasized in a conversation with US Weekly, “Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. If you say something, they’re going to say something; if you don’t say something, they’re going to say something. So, just live your life.”
Biles and Owens continue to support each other publicly, proving that their love remains strong despite the negativity.
